Should we believe everything we were told in the series? In a very good hostage policy thriller, available in Netflix, Alex Dalton (Ashley Thomas), British Prime Minister’s husband Abigail Dalton (Suran Jones) is a doctor. A few months after his wife arrived in Downing Strip, this character went on a humanitarian mission to doctors, without borders in French. During this mission, he was also kidnapped, which led to the entire plot of the series created by Matthew Chiman.
But here it is: While browsing the hostage, this geographical detail raised us an eyebrow. Does really interfere with the MSF territory? Guyana, of course, remote, remains a French foreign department that has a public health system. So, a realistic mission or a dramatic license?
MSF is in response to
We have directly raised the question Doctors without boundaries. The organization’s answer is clear: “MSF has never worked in French in Ghura“, Confirms the speaker of the NGO.”We work in more than 75 countries that are affected by epidemics, conflicts, natural disasters“But not French or overseas in France.
The organization also tells us that it really was “Exchange between Netflix and MSF“During production but it”MSF was not involved in the series design.“Consultation that did not cause this script point to change.

Estimated fiction
For MSF, this geographical inaccuracies “No problem because it is fiction.“NGO tells us”Responsibility must be declared at the beginning of the series to indicate.“This exchange with the MSF took place a few days before the transfer of the series.
This little impregnated reality is part of a understandable dramatic logic. Hosting writers, Alex Dalton’s French Guyana has several advantages: the area is sufficiently distant to justify the character isolation and in the territory of France, which turns out to be very useful when the president of the republic plays a precursor.

“This program is pure fiction. All descriptions of humans and organizations are fictitious and created for entertainment purposes.“
The art of script shortcut
This type of freedom of reality is widespread in fantasy. Series creators regularly take reduced real procedures, protocols of existing organizations, or geography that serve their narrative. Finally, this little inaccuracies are not distinguished from the quality of Matthew Chiman’s thriller. Hostage remains excellent entertainment, even if you don’t meet MSF in French in the next vacation!
