The formation of a huge waterspout in the city of Palmares do Sul, in the Rio Grande Sul, it impressed the residents and had repercussions on social networks.
The phenomenon was recorded on the afternoon of Thursday 9 and lasted about 5 minutes, as reported by ‘Rádio Gaúcha’.
According to meteorological website Metsul, which has shared videos made by residents, the waterspout remained over a lake in the city the entire time and did not advance landward.
This fact fortunately contributed to the fact that no damage was reported in the city on the north coast of Rio Grande do Sul.
A waterspout is an aquatic version of a tornado and differs from this one in that it forms over a body of water, be it a river, lake or ocean, and connects in a funnel shape from the base of the cloud down to touch the surface.
The phenomenon can exceed 100 km/h, last up to 10 minutes, and is particularly dangerous for boats.
