Russo comes from three consecutive titles
Number six in the world and lulled by three consecutive titles, Russian Daniil Medvedev got an early start this Saturday, Friday night, at the Masters 1000 in Indian Wells, California.
The former world number 1 dominated the American Brandon Nakashima, 48th, scoring 6/4 6/3 after 1h26min on the central court of the event.
Champion in Doha, Rotterdam and Dubai, this time beating Novak Djokovic, the Russian scores his 15th consecutive victory and wins all the last 17 sets played. He has 20 wins from 22 games this season.
Now he aims to repeat his best result in the Californian tournament, namely the round of 16 in 2021. His opponent will be the Belarusian Iliya Ivashka, 85th, whom he has defeated in three of the four matches so far.
Medvedev had trouble early in the match with Nakashima’s good pace, but Medvedev soon found ball and floor speed and began to dominate, breaking to close the set and opening up 2-0 in the second. Nakashima played two games putting the Russian’s serve under pressure, varying his game and trying, but didn’t take advantage of the opportunities for the break. Medvedev held serve and broke again in the eighth game to define the win.
