Oscars 2023: Olhar Digital’s bets for each category

Oscars 2023: Olhar Digital’s bets for each category

The 2023 Oscar ceremony takes place tomorrow, March 12, and to keep the warm-up going for the major motion picture award, we’re bringing in our bets for each of the 23 award categories, from Best Picture to Technical categories.

Check below which films, actors, directors, writers and technical categories we believe will take home the statuettes. It is worth noting that, logically, the following assumptions are just opinions and do not reflect reality.

Then, check out the bets below for the Oscars 2023:

Best Movie – All everywhere at the same time

While many favorites end up being displaced at the Oscars, that doesn’t have to be the case All everywhere at the same time. The film is on the rise and is a record holder of nominations and satisfied audiences and critics.

Best Director: Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (All everywhere at the same time)

Often the Best Picture category ends up being tied to that of Best Director. There are several instances where that hasn’t happened but I think, this year, things will take that turn with a win by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, the Daniels, directors of All everywhere at the same time. If not, Steven Spielberg could wind up being awarded for the semi-biographical drama The Fabelmans.

Best Actress – Michelle Yeoh (All everywhere at the same time)

This is perhaps the biggest question of all categories: Michelle Yeoh or Cate Blanchett? Here we bet on Yeoh’s excellent work in science fiction All everywhere at the same timebut Blanchett could very well win her third Oscar for her incredible performance in tar. Any result beyond these two would be close to absurd.

Best Actor – Brendan Fraser (The whale)

golden globe

As in the previous case, a two-headed fight between Brendan Fraser seems to be over The whaleand Austin Butler, per elvis, with Colin Farrell running on the outside. However, we give Fraser a nod for his brilliant portrayal of Charlie in the drama that tackles topics like depression, obesity, and human relationships.

Best Supporting Actress: Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin)

In such a contested category, with three actresses appearing strong in contention, our bet comes down to a fourth. Although Angela Bassett (black panther 2), Hong Chau (The whale) and Jamie Lee Curtis (All everywhere at the same time) seem to contest favoritism, I believe Kerry Condon is able to dethrone them all and take home the Oscar for The Banshees of Inisherin.

Best Supporting Actor – Ke Huy Quan (All everywhere at the same time)

Our bet here goes to the overall favorite for the prize. Ke Huy Quan conquered the world with his performance in All everywhere at the same time and is expected to take home the 2023 Oscar statuette, completing one of Hollywood’s most impressive stories.

Best Original Screenplay – Todd Field (tar)

Another case where you go against favoritism, the category seems very pointed Everything Everywhere… AND The Banshees of Inisherin. While a win for both is very possible (and probable), our bet is that the Academy could choose to award Todd Field’s vision for Lydia Tár’s fictional story.

Best Adapted Screenplay – Sarah Polley (Among women)

Among women it’s the only film directed by a woman to appear among the Best Picture nominees, and we believe the Academy will choose to award the film in this category, which is exactly where it stands out.

Best Animated Film – Pinocchio by Guillermo Del Toro

bull stop motion

One of the categories that seems most certain across all of the Oscars is Best Animated Feature, with almost certainly the nominee Pinocchio by Guillermo Del Toro. The Netflix film has won everything it has played so far and del Toro is expected to become the first person to win the Oscar in the Best Picture, Best Director and Best Animation categories.

Best International Film – Nothing new on the front

Sequence of categories that just don’t have much to think about. The German war film Nothing new on the front it will almost certainly win the Best International Film category and should compete in other categories toe-to-toe with American films.

Best Feature Documentary – Navalny

the documentary Navalny it’s the most talked about on the list after winning the BAFTA and PGA, and also after Dasha Navalnaya, daughter of imprisoned Russian dissident Alexey Navalny portrayed in the film, appeared on CNN USA ahead of the Oscar poll. Another great possibility is a win by Volcanoes: the tragedy of Katia and Maurice Krafft.

Best Documentary Short – How to take care of a baby elephant

Predicting what will happen in the short film categories is always very difficult, but this time we are moving forward How to take care of a baby elephanta Netflix documentary about a South Indian couple caring for an orphaned baby elephant.

Best Live Action Short Film – The Red Suitcase

As mentioned above, it is always difficult to predict what will happen between short films, but here we will bet on the film. The Red Suitcase, accompanying a 16-year-old Iranian girl. Another strong possibility is a win by An Irish farewellthe only one in English in the list.

Best Animated Short Film – The boy, the mole, the fox and the horse

The animated shorts category seems divided between The boy, the mole, the fox and the horsefrom Apple TV+ and My year of dicks, provocative short by Sara Gunnarsdóttir. Although the latter has many supporters and has many chances to win, let’s go with the former, which was a BAFTA winner.

Best Original Score – John Williams (The Fabelmans)

One of the most contested categories of the year, the awards have been very divided thus far. While the BAFTA elected Nothing new on the frontthe Golden Globes chose to do it Babylonand here we’ll make a third bet: veteran John Williams, per The Fabelmans. In addition to the three mentioned, another veteran, Carter Burwell, also has many chances to win The Banshees of Inisherin.

Best Original Song Naatu Naatu (RRR)

Although Rihanna helped the chances of “Lift Me Up”. black panther 2with her Super Bowl performance, the favorite remains Naatu Naatu from the film RRR (revolt, rebellion, revolution) and it is in this song that our bet goes.

Best Sound – Top Gun: nonconformist

maverick box office franchise top gun

The film with Tom Cruise that brought back the “franchise” Top Guns after decades it stands out for its sound, and this seems like a safe bet and consistent with what the Oscars usually award.

Best Cinematography – Nothing new on the front

BAFTA winner, Nothing new on the front it appears to be the category favorite, and it’s well deserved. By the way, we explain here what the award for the best photography means. With the highlight of the film in this category, we’ll stick with the BAFTA winner, though elvis have a chance to unseat him.

Best Visual Effects – Avatar: The Way of Water

While all applicants are proficient when it comes to visual effects, there’s simply no way not to bet Avatars 2 Here.

Best Costume – Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

It looks like a close fight between Ruth E. Carter’s black panther 2 and Catherine Martin of elvis. Despite elvis appear as a slight favorite, we opt for costumes from the new black Pantherwho also won for the former.

Best Editing – Top Gun: nonconformist

Despite elviswith Matt Villa and Jonathan Redmond, they have great chances to win, e All everywhere at the same timeedited by Paul Rogers, seems like a strong possibility, we bet Eddie Hamilton’s edition of Top Gun: nonconformist will double with Best Sound.

Best Makeup and Hairstyling – elvis

Let’s go with the BAFTA and Critics’ Choice category winner, elviswith Makeup and Hairstyles by Mark Coulier, Jason Baird and Aldo Signoretti. The whale it also has many possibilities, from the transformation of Brendan Fraser.

Best Production Design – Babylon

The production project of Babylonsigned by Florencia Martin and Anthony Carlino, won what it contested, and we bet that the Oscar will enter this list.
