What is it about?
A local figure was found murdered on the banks of the Ardèche River by young kayakers in the town of Vallon-Pont-d’Arc. The murder weapon is a carved stone dating to more than 40,000 years ago, a period consistent with the presence of men in the region’s rock cave.
Gendarmerie Captain Riyad Lekir, who is in charge of the investigation, is to team up with his colleague, Manon Ferret-Duval, in the research department. A collaboration that he is not at all happy about, as a painful past binds them together. But neither Riyad nor Manon can suspect that this investigation will bring back the ghosts of their childhood and establish a connection between two murders committed thirty years apart.

In the ocean of its hyperformatted detective films on Saturday night, France 3 finally seems determined to bring a bit of originality to its viewers.
After last week’s murders in Béarn, which had the good idea to separate a duo of female investigators in their fifties, the mystery of the cave, a kind of “murders in the Ardèche” in disguise, is primarily based on a complex story that connects. Manon and Riyad, two gendarmes played by Elodie Varlet and Sammy Gharbi, who are forced to cooperate despite the difficult past that binds them.
Indeed, in December 1994, at the same time as the discovery of the Vallon-Pont-d’Arc cave, Kamel, Riyad’s older brother, was arrested for the murder of Manon’s parents (who was 8 years old at the time. ). And seeing his alibi collapse, Kamel committed suicide in police custody.
Manon has returned to the village where she grew up, so she’s not exactly happy about having to investigate with her brother, who she believes is her parents’ killer. Except that soon the two police officers, who are facing everything, will realize that the past has not yet given all the answers. that these two cases are related. And that the real killer of Manon’s parents is still on the loose.
This well-made TV movie, directed by Cristel Reynal and written by Florence Filipponati and Olivier Berclaz, gets a lot of credit for the performances of Elodie Varlett and Sammy Garb, who have insane chemistry and offer precision, depth and vulnerability to their characters.
The investigation remains fairly classic, even if it offers its share of twists and suspects. But it is the more intimate and personal aspect of the story and the investigation that interests the mystery of the cave that will hopefully inspire the producer and France 3 to present other television films with the participation of Elodie Varlet. Sam is a poor duet.
