The federal government says it is “radically against” only fans in stadiums

The national football secretary says the proposal shows “management incompetence” on the part of the state

One day after the governor of Rio, Claudius Castro (PL), banning five organized groups from attending stadiums and associating them with criminal organizations, the national secretary of the Football and defending the rights of fans, Jose Luis Ferrarezilamented “the conduct” with which the brawl between Flamengo fans and Basque last weekend. One man was killed and seven others were injured.

The turmoil has increased the debate about individual fans in stadiums, which is already happening St. Paul and is under discussion in states like Rio de Janeiro AND Saint Catherine. In this regard, Ferrarezi declared that the federal government rejects the hypothesis and wants the debate on brawls between fans to take place at a national level.

“I landed in Rio yesterday (Friday) already with a debate that involved the fans, and I’m sorry for how it unfolded. I’m sincerely sorry. It’s not just with the fans that we will resolve this situation in Brazil,” said Ferrarezi during the sports management seminar organized by FGV in Rio.

“We have a radical position against this single fan situation. When the state does this, it assumes its incompetence in managing and conducting the debate. I believe we must federalize this issue, together with the states, the federal government, in dialogue with the CBF “, he has declared. “When the state says it needs to have a unique fan base, it says it can’t serve its population.”

After his speech, the secretary admitted that the federalization of the issue is not that simple. “We have to recognize that states have autonomy. Now, the (federal) government can no longer just watch. We have to federalize this debate. The CBF must also position itself on this. Of course, we also understand the autonomy of the CBF in holding matches , competitions, federations, but this fan issue is important for the country,” he commented. “And the violence isn’t happening inside the camp, it’s happening nearby, in the surroundings. This is a matter of public safety.”

Ferrarezi once again criticized the way the matter was handled in Rio, after a meeting that saw the participation of the governor, representatives of security agencies, the public prosecutor and the Rio Football Federation (Ferj). “Here in Rio de Janeiro I arrived yesterday and you don’t hear that fans must be banned, they must be criminalized, as they are trying to do. In the single crowd. This is exempting the state, making life easier for the state.” , commented.

“It’s not banning fans or criminalizing organized fans that will solve this situation. We are of the opinion that when you have mixed fans, more fans inside the stadium – just see how it was Palmeiras vs Flamengo in Brasilia in the final (of the Super cup), with two supporters – this enriches the event, the show”, added the secretary.

In his assessment, the discussion of fan violence needs to be focused on the individual, not the group. “It’s the CPF of the person. You have to understand that there are good and bad people everywhere, in supporters, in politics, in religions, in companies. That’s the CPF, not supporters,” she stressed.
