Michelle Yeoh made history at the 2023 Oscars by being nominated for Best Actress for her work as the lead in the blockbuster All everywhere at the same time. She was considered a slight favorite, with a close race with Cate Blanchett, per tar.
Yeoh became the first Asian to win this award. He joins Japan’s Miyoshi Umeki and South Korea’s Yuh-Jung Youn, winners in the Best Supporting Actress category in 1957 and 2020, respectively, as the only Asian actresses to receive an Oscar.
Michelle Yeoh said her victory represents “hope and possibility” for “boys and girls”. “This is proof that dreams come true,” the actress added.
Yeoh won the award for his work on the acclaimed sci-fi film All everywhere at the same time. There, she played Chinese immigrant Evelyn Wang, who ends up on a crazy adventure in the multiverse.
Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert’s film was the record holder for Oscar nominations this year.
