Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, Stephanie Hsu and James Hong reunite in a series from the director of ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’
The new Oscar winners michelle yeoh (Oscar for Best Actress) and Ke Huy Quan (Oscar for Best Supporting Actor) will meet with their castmates from ‘Everything at Once Everywhere’ Stephanie Hsu and James Hong for a new action-comedy series on Disney+.
Disney has been ready and has released the first trailer for the series, ‘American Born Chinese’during an Academy Awards gala in which ‘Everything at once everywhere’ has won 7 Oscars, including Best Picture.
Based on the graphic novel by Gene Luen Yang, ‘American Born Chinese’ will be a series about coming of age and coming of age, about identity and belonging to an ethnic group or a place, seasoned with comedy, action and fantasy. The main character will be Jin Wang (Ben Wang), a Chinese-American teenager who will be involved in a battle between the gods of Chinese mythology.
Michelle Yeoh will be Guanyin, the “Goddess of Mercy” from Chinese mythology, often depicted with a serene expression, wearing a robe, and holding a lotus flower or vase. Guanyin is believed to have the ability to alleviate suffering and bestow blessings, so the compassionate goddess is called upon in times of need and ill health. Ke Huy QuanFor his part, he will be a character yet to be defined in the show called Freddy Wong.
Both will be reunited with their ‘All at Once…’ cast mates Stephanie Hsu, also an Oscar nominee, and James Hong. Hsu will play Shiji Niangniang, a Taoist deity associated with fertilitychildbirth and the protection of women and children, while Hong will be a recurring character called The Jade Emperor.
The action comedy will be directed by Destin Daniel Creton (‘Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’), which is based in Marvel’s UCM, also preparing the ‘Wonder Man’ series. In addition to Cretton, Lucy Liu has confirmed that he will also take on the directing role for (at least) one episode.
