‘I Was Told How The Netflix Series Ended’: Penn Badgley Teases Your Ending

Warning, this interview contains spoilers for season 4 (parts 1 and 2). If you haven’t seen it, go ahead.

You surprised everyone with a twist in Part 2 that could hardly have been predicted: Joe (Pen Badgley) realizes that he’s been stalked by an imaginary person all along and that he’s a “rich man killer.” .

He then realizes that he is suffering from a form of schizophrenia, and this split personality has put Marien’s life in danger.

AlloCiné was able to discuss this event with Badgley and how it will affect the rest of the series.

AlloCiné: If fans are still wondering if Joe was a psychopath, they finally have an answer. How did the writers come up with this fake Rhys character?

Penn Badley: You should know that the two creators of the series write backwards: “What if you lost a finger? What if he was the killer? And if he was from the beginning??They start writing the whole season from this premise.

The announcement of episode 7 was a logical continuation. The series is called You because of Joe’s inability to self-reflect. So he fixates on someone else. We’re getting to a point where the problem really centers on him.

The series may end at the end of season 4, so what can we imagine for a possible season 5?

This will only be speculation on my part. The creators told me a few years ago – well before the fourth season – how the series would end. I thought the finale was brilliant, but I can’t tell you anything (laughs).

If there is a fifth season, the action will continue where we left off. Joe has the power. And that’s a scary thought. This opens up a lot of possibilities for the field, but also means that it will be harder to fall. If there is a 5th season, it will be interesting!

It was believed that love was his soulmate, a monster like him. But we can say that Kate (Charlotte Ritchie) is his real alter ego. How to imagine their future together?

No, I don’t think so! Why do you think such things? (laughs). True, he is more honest with him than with previous conquests. But she’s still hiding something from him, right? This is his main problem.

It gets more vulnerable and honest from season to season, but never quite. The question we should be asking ourselves more is: Why was Kate different from the others? The real problem is that he is a problem. So no, I don’t think he’s her soulmate. But he still has more chances of survival than others (laughs).
