Netflix left nothing less than “dust” for its streaming rivals during the 2023 Oscars, which took place on Sunday (12). The platform took home six awards, beating all other media services – only Apple TV+ managed to win an award.
With the award for best animation, Netflix beat out two of the most famous producers of the genre – DreamWorks and Pixar, who competed with “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” and “Red: Growing Up Is a Beast”. Netflix’s “A Fera do mar” and A24’s “Marcel the Shell With Shoes” were also in the running.
The only other stream honored was Apple TV+, which won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film for “The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse.”
The leadership means the return of Netflix in the race against rivals in the event. In 2021, streaming also took the lead in Oscar nominations and won more awards than anyone else: 7 Oscars in total. But, in 2022, despite having 27 nominations, he took home only one statuette, for “Ataque dos Cães”. Despite having already won 16 Oscars out of 116 nominations, the platform has so far failed to win in the most important front of the competition, that of Best Picture.

The 2023 Academy Award for Best Picture went to “Everything in Every Place at Once,” with science fiction confirming favoritism in the night’s top category. The film also won awards for director and original screenplay (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert), actress (Michelle Yeoh), editing and supporting actor and actress (Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis). That is, there were 7 statuettes and 11 nominations in 10 categories.
