This Monday 13 the federal government formalized the appointment of the new regional superintendents of the Federal Road Police (PRF). The choices are in Federal Official Sheet (DOU).
All the regional heads of the company, in the 26 states and in the Federal District, who were in the previous management were sacked by the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). The layoffs were made in January and some replacements were already working on an interim basis.
The nominations are signed by the executive secretary of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, Ricardo Cappeli, number two of Minister Flávio Dino. Although having autonomy of action, the PRF is part of the administrative structure of the file. There are only two women on the list.

During Jair Bolsonaro’s four-year rule, the PRF leadership maintained close alignment with the former president, which placed the company at the center of accusations of politicisation. The former director general of the Silvinei Vasques institute is under investigation on charges of collusion with the Bolsonarists who blocked federal highways to protest against the election result.
The new director general of the PRF, Antônio Fernando Souza Oliveira, took office last month with the promise of removing the corporation from the political banners and recovering the image of the institution, worn out in the previous government. In his speech, he said that “isolated” and “abominable” acts cast “mistrust” in society and spoke of “saving the essence” of the PRF.
