“It would have been very topical now.”
The almost director of ‘No time to die’, Danny Boylehas revealed for the first time its scrapped plot for the 25th Bond film.
Known for the critically acclaimed ’28 Days Later’, ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ and ‘Trainspotting’, Boyle was only temporarily involved behind the scenes, leaving over creative differences in 2018 before he Cary Joji Fukunaga will take the reins.
“I remember thinking, ‘Should I really get involved in franchising?’ ‘Cause they don’t really want something differentBoyle recently told Esquire.
“They want you to freshen it up a bit, but not really challenge it, and we wanted to do something different with it. Strangely, he would have been very topical now. It was all set in Russia, which is of course where Bond came from, outside of the Cold War. It was set in present-day Russia and it went back to his origins, and they just lost, how do you say… they just lost confidence in him. It was a shame, really“.
An issue that is unfortunately currently topical, given that Russia is currently at war with Ukraine.
Later in the interview, the filmmaker dismissed the idea of trying his hand at a future Bond entry, but singled out Robert Pattinson of The Batman and Paapa Essiedu of ‘I could destroy you’ as his options for the replacement of the 007 that the actor has left Daniel Craig.
The franchise producer Barbara Broccoli he said of that situation earlier this month: “It’s a big decision. It’s not just about choosing a role. It’s about completely rethinking where we’re going“.
Boyle left the film but he was not the only casting that changed: the script took several turns before filming. Scott Z Burns was in charge of rewriting the script and the last one who entered to review it was Phoebe Waller Bridge, the creator of series like ‘Fleabag’. During Boyle’s short tenure on the project, she had commissioned an entirely new text from John Hodge, in charge of ‘Trainspotting’. That storyline was dropped once Boyle departed from the film.
After the participation of Daniel Craig as agent 007 (leaving five films behind him), now it’s time to think about who will be his successor. Among the latest news and rumors that reach us, four names are being considered Idris Elba, Henry Cavill, Tom Hardy Y Jacob Elordi. Anyway, Barbara. broccoliproducer of the saga, has commented that it is not a question of a selection, but to see the course they are taking now for the new plot.
