Star Wars 8: Often Criticized by Fans, Director Gets Valuable Support!

Dave Filoni is currently one of the most high-profile figures in the creative world of Lucasfilm and the Star Wars universe in general. Chosen by George Lucas to direct the animated film Clone Wars, as well as its series in 2008, he is often seen as the last representative of Lucas’ spirit after Disney’s takeover of the Star Wars brand.

And most recently, at the microphone THRFillon wanted to publicly defend the filmmaking talents of Rian Johnson, the director of The Last Jedi. When it came out, the feature film divided fans like never before, not least because it sidelined or canceled many of the plots of its predecessor, The Force Awakens, without offering alternatives.

Nevertheless, Philo is full of praise for his colleague:

It was Ryan who gave me the virus, put the contact lenses in my hands and drowned me. I am still in contact with him. He is clearly a talented director and I was very lucky to be in an environment where I could sit and listen and learn.

After meeting Johnson, Filoni moved on to directing live-action, still in the Star Wars universe. We already have 3 episodes of The Mandalorian (S01E02 and 05 and S02E05), a Boba Fett book episode (S01E06) and soon the pilot of the Ahsoka series.

Filoni began his career working on Avatar: The Last Airbender (2005) before being hired by Lucasfilm Animation to direct The Clone Wars film and its 2008 sequel. Fans who worked with George Lucas soon recognized him as his spiritual son. About the Star Wars universe.

He was then quickly assigned the Rebels series, which was considered one of the fan favorites of the galactic universe, and then the Resistance. In 2020, buoyed by the success of The Mandalorian, which he co-wrote and produced, he was appointed executive creative director of Lucasfilm. He has since produced The Bad Batch, a Clone Wars spin-off, but also Tales of the Jedi.

If Rian Johnson’s planned unreleased Star Wars trilogy isn’t officially abandoned, he’s very busy with the third installment of Knives Out planned for Netflix and his Poker Face series.

Lucasfilm might announce a new movie on April 7, the famous Star Wars holiday.
