The Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyansaid he complained to the Russian president, Vladimir PutinFrom “problems” with Moscow’s peacekeeping force in countering threats of renewed hostilities with neighboring Azerbaijan, according to Al Jazeera.
According to Al Jazeera, Nikol Pashinyan has repeatedly criticized what he described as the “failure of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, or CSTO, to protect Armenia”, which is a member of the organization, in the midst of a situation of standoff with Azerbaijan over Nagorno-Karabakh.
Russia wants to at the same time try to preserve ties with Armenia, which are already strong, and maintain a friendly relationship with energy-rich Azerbaijan.
Pashinyan stated at a press conference that it is not Armenia that is leaving the CSTO, but, on the contrary, “the CSTO is withdrawing from Armenia whether they like it or not.”

Pashinyan said he raised Armenian concerns about the situation during a Monday phone call with Vladimir Putin, “I spoke to (Putin) about the danger of a possible escalation in Nagorno-Karabakh, I think there are problems in the area of responsibility of the Russian peacekeeping force.”
The Armenian leader noted “objective problems” in dealings with the Kremlin, but said he didn’t think they had escalated into a crisis.
