FIFA has announced the classification criteria for the tournament; The Libertadores champions from 2021 to 2024 have guaranteed vacancies.




FIFA announced this Tuesday 14, more news on the new Club World Cup, which will be played from 2025. This time, the organization has provided more details on the classification criteria for the tournament. Under the new rules, the continental champions between 2021 and 2024 will have a guaranteed place. In this way Palmeiras – champions in 2021- and Flamengo – in 2022 – are insured in the competition.

In all, Conmebol, the confederation representing South American teams, is entitled to 6 vacancies, of which 4 vacancies will be filled by the champions of Libertadores from 2021 to 2024, which automatically guarantees Fla e Verdão. However, the classification criteria for the other 2 vacancies are not defined.

On 14 February, FIFA’s technical council unanimously approved the new format of the World Cup. As in the World Cup, the tournament will be contested by 32 clubs, every 4 years.
