Microsoft Edge 111 comes with built-in artificial intelligence and advanced security

Microsoft Edge 111 arrives with highlights for Bing integration, use of ChatGPT AI to streamline tasks, and improvements to browser security and privacy

Microsoft Edge 111 was released this Tuesday (14th) with several notable changes, such as Bing highlighted, Copilot with AI, and security tightening. Additionally, the sidebar has also received new features to assist the user.

The Bing icon is now at the top of the sidebar, located on the toolbar, larger than other items and more prominent. There you can interact with ChatGPT directly, without having to be directed to the search engine, which is a huge improvement.

Coupled with this feature, Copilot comes to offer “the best experience in relevant answers”. The service uses artificial intelligence to provide useful information or suggest activities on the currently active website, such as generating page summaries or assisting in editing text.

As soon as the person opens Bing in Edge, the browser asks for permission to access the web content displayed on the screen. When you authorize it, proceed to make these suggestions whenever possible.

In addition to this set of AI improvements, Sidebar has gained support for the auto hide feature. Once activated, the app hides the tray when not in use, similar to what happened in the past with the Windows taskbar.

With the change, the Microsoft can increase edge sidebar adherence. Many people have complained that it takes up unnecessary screen space, but disappearing it when not in use solves the problem.

To return to the visualization it is necessary to click or simply pass the mouse over the icon bing. The location will be hidden again once you finish the desired actions.

greater security

Edge 111 has had a fundamental reinforcement in the security part, mainly in Linux and macOS: the app has started supporting WebAssembly for the 64-bit versions of the aforementioned operating systems. This would be Microsoft’s first step towards support on ARM64 platforms, which should come in the future.

WebAssembly is a type of code designed to perform near natively in modern browsers when running languages like C/C++. It’s also designed to work alongside JavaScript, allowing the two to work together for security and speed.

New tab border

Another browser change is Edge Enterprise’s new tab. When you open a new tab, your browser should present a Microsoft 365 feed, bringing a diverse and centralized layout, productivity tabs, important emails from Outlook, recent SharePoint sites, current or upcoming events, as well as to-do tasks.

This addition can bring more help to those who find it difficult to get organized, as there will be a summary of the day’s main activities right on the main page. The bad part is because this will require memory and internet connection, so it’s possible to have some impact on processing on less powerful machines.

Finally, the developers of Edge have also included a new policy to automatically clear Internet Explorer mode data when the app is closed. By enabling the option, your browsing history and other data will be deleted from IE mode when you close Edge.

Users can configure this setting in the “Clear browsing data for Internet Explorer” option in the “Privacy, search and services” menu in Settings. If you prefer, you can type the command in the address bar to go directly to the correct location: edge://settings/privacy.

These new features are already available in Microsoft Edge 111, just update the application to the latest version. To do this, just follow the steps below:
