Julia Garner weighs in on the controversial ending of ‘Ozark’

ATTENTION, SPOILERS! The Netflix actress gives a good overview of the shocking conclusion of the series.

    **SPOILERS!**

The fans of ‘Ozarks‘ are mourning for Ruth Langmore’s deathlike the actress Julia Garner.

On April 29, Netflix released ‘Ozark Season 4 Part 2’, and the ending of the crime drama shocked the fandom. After Julia avenged the death of her cousin Wyatt (charlie tahan) killing his murderer Javi (Alfonso Herrera), the mother of the cartel leader, Camila (veronica falcon), fatally shoots him as revenge. As expected, seeing her favorite character die instead of Marty (Jason Bateman) or Wendy (laura linney) didn’t sit well with a lot of people. “Why did they do that to Ruth?”, wrote one person on Instagram. “I wish Ruth was the one standing and not Wendy!added another.

But Julia Garner, who has already defined herself on the matter on other occasions, might not agree. Before receiving the script that detailed how ‘Ozark’ would end, the actress already felt that it was the end of the road for Ruth. While it may have been a bit hard to digest, Julia made her peace with it and she hopes fans will too.

Talking with Time, the star of ‘Who is Anna?’ she shared why she thought her character’s story ended the way she did. “I really think Ruth died when Wyatt died.”, he told the media. “I think his body was alone here. She wasn’t going to give up life voluntarily, but I think she was so dead inside of her that if she had the chance to die, she wouldn’t say she didn’t.”.

Julia continued: “In the end, it is not she who approaches death, it is death that approaches her. At the end of the season, she didn’t care to live. She did what she had to do, she killed Javi and after that mission, she was like a ghost.”

As for Marty and Wendy escaping just in time thanks to Jonah (Skylar Gaertner), that did not mean that the family got away with it. “I don’t see it as a victory for the Byrdes, even if they think they came out on top. I think they are lying to themselves,” he explained. “They could have won the battle, but they didn’t win the war. When you get your hands that dirty, they can never be clean.”.

So Julia was okay with ‘Ozark’ only having four seasons? Yes and no. Her connection to Ruth kept her wanting more, but she finally understood her decision. After all, she is preparing to be behind the camera as a producer on future projects.

“From an artistic standpoint, I feel like ending on a high note like this is probably the smartest move. You never want to be the last person to leave the party.“, said. “Personally and selfishly, I could film this show until I am 70 years old.”

But even with the curtains falling on ‘Ozark,’ Julia won’t be forgetting her on-screen family any time soon. “’Ozark’ isn’t just a page in my book, it’s chapters,” she told the magazine. “It’s not just a job. It’s a part of me”.
