Vasco’s proposal for Abaldo is rejected and Defensor promises to play tough

Cruz-Maltino’s offer aims to have the striker on loan with an option to buy. The Uruguayan club understands that the jewel will increase in value by participating in the Under 20 World Cup

Vasco’s interest in Uruguayan striker Matías Abaldo has cooled off. Cruz-Maltino presented a loan offer until the end of the year, with an option to buy 80% of the economic rights for US$1.5 million (R$7.88 million). Defensor, the club where the player has a contract until December 2024, has not accepted the offer and is awaiting a counter-proposal from Cruz-Maltino, which has not yet been made, perhaps for strategy.

Vasco was patient with the negotiations in the South American market, such as the signing of Orellano and Capasso, which dragged on for several days. However, the transfer window will close on April 5, in three weeks’ time.

But the defender also promises to play hard. Abaldo is only 18 years old and is considered a jewel of Uruguayan football. The striker is a sure name in the Under 20 World Cup, which will be played between May and June in Indonesia. Calling up for the tournament will enhance the player, already monitored by European clubs. A negotiation frowned upon by the athlete’s staff. However, Vasco is still not ruled out as a possibility.

Matías Abaldo turns 19 on 3 April and, despite his young age, has already been a regular in the professional Defensor team since the final stretch of last season. This year there are five matches and one goal scored.
