TV Box: Anatel releases list of approved devices

The National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) has published a list of TV Boxes authorized to operate in Brazil.

This Monday (13th), the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) has published a list of TV Boxes authorized to operate in Brazil. The TV Box is an IP device that uses the Internet protocol to offer access to streaming applications, broadcasts of paid or free channels, as well as applications and social networks, transforming an ordinary TV into a SmartTV.

Anatel approves the products supplied to the Brazilian market in order to ensure the safety of the radio frequency spectrum and its users during use. The agency’s inspection also assesses the electromagnetic compatibility of its use with other electronic devices in the environment, such as preventing unauthorized access to users’ personal information.

To identify if a device is approved, just check if it has the agency seal containing the number of its approval certificate corresponding to the model. Anatel has also made available a personalized survey of Anatel Data Panel intended for Product Certification. See the full list of phones approved in February 2023 below;

Anatel will block illegal TV Box devices

In early February, Anatel announced an action plan for combat the use and marketing of pirated TV Boxes. According to the Brazilian Pay-TV Association (ABTA), approximately 6 million Brazilian homes have illegal access to pay-TV. Additionally, devices that have not been audited by the agency may pose a risk to users due to the presence of malware.

Devices that do not have Anatel’s official seal of approval or that have access to all content from closed channels and streaming services — without having to pay a subscription or for much less than market value — will have their signal blocked at all times.
