One of the key announcements in the first phase of “Gods and Monsters” from (relatively) new DC Studios bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran was a new film based on DC’s most iconic hero, called Superman: Legacy. At the time, Gunn said she was writing the script but hadn’t decided if he would direct it. Now they’ve taken to Twitter to confirm that this is the case and why.
Gunn refers to discovering something in the script that excited him enough to want to direct it, especially since his executive duties at the studio will also mean he’ll have less time to actively work on his own material. .
He previously said the new movie would focus on a young Supes (so Henry Cavill aims to return to suit by exploding faster than Krypton), skipping the well-trodden path of the original story.
We’ll have to see exactly what form this new Superman movie takes, but Gunn is working toward a July 11, 2025 release date.
Meanwhile, back on the Marvel front, the writer/director still has guardians of the galaxy vol. 3 expires May 3 this year.
