The Norwegian government has denied the crew of the Mission Impossible spy thriller series a helicopter landing in the Svalbard archipelago. It was there that it was planned to shoot a scene for the seventh part, subtitled “Deadly Reckoning”. The producers asked Svalbard Governor Lars Fause to allow 30 helicopter landings in the archipelago.

The Department of Ecology explained to the film crew that the refusal was due to the unwillingness to disturb the local nature and population, as well as the desire to preserve the “virtually untouched environment of Svalbard.” The creators of “Mission Impossible” intend to appeal against the decision of the Norwegian authorities in court.

“Mission: Impossible: Deadly Reckoning” will be split into two films that will be released a year apart. The first one starts on July 14, 2023, while the second will start showing in theaters on June 28, 2024. Christopher McQuarrie, who directed Mission: Impossible: Rogue Nation and Mission: Impossible: Fallout, will return to direct. Tom Cruise will return to his role.

Recall that Cruise decided to skip the Oscars this year despite the fact that the Top Gun: Maverick film with his participation was nominated in six categories, including claiming the award in the Best Picture nomination.
