Blackberry phone history comedy gets trailer




IFC Films has released the official trailer for the comedy ‘BlackBerry’, a film showcasing the rise, rise and fall of the mobile device that revolutionized the phone industry.

Director Matt Johnson (“Operation Avalanche”), along with co-writer Matthew Miller (“Chuck”), have adapted the biopic “Losing the Signal: The Untold Story Behind the Extraordinary Rise and Spectacular Fall of BlackBerry” for the big screen. . The plot tells the story of Doug and Mike, two young men who discover an untapped wireless signal in America, which leads them to develop the first mobile device with phone and email capabilities. But after building an empire with the launch of the BlackBerry, the two ended up bankrupt after the iPhone hit the market.

In the production, Johnson himself plays the co-founder of the company, Douglas Fregin, while Jay Baruchel (“It’s the End”) plays his partner Mihal “Mike” Lazaridis. The story of the two young entrepreneurs gains momentum when they meet investor Jim Balsillie, played by Glenn Howerton (“Adrenaline”), who agrees to get the duo’s project off the ground in exchange for the position of CEO and 50% of the company.

The cast also includes guest appearances from Cary Elwes (“The Big Business – Operation Fortune”), Saul Rubinek (“Crimes in Paradise”), Michael Ironside (“Anonymous”), Rich Sommer (“Summer of ’84”) and Michelle Giroux (“Life in a Year”).

Screening at the Berlin Film Festival and SXSW, USA, the film received several positive reviews and achieved a 95% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The commercial debut is scheduled for May 12 in the United States, but there is no forecast for the launch in Brazil yet.
