Eduardo Bolsonaro sued for illegal jewelery in a chat in the Chamber: ‘Have you returned your watch yet?’

MP Glauber Braga (Psol-RJ) questioned the MP and Jair Bolsonaro’s son: “Have you already returned the R$400,000 watch and other items that your father brought home? Because that, MP Eduardo Bolsonaro, is corruption”.

BRASÍLIA – Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) was instructed, in the plenary of the Chamber, to return the jewels that his father, the then president Jair Bolsonaro, had illegally received in Brazil, as a gift from the Saudi regime, without having one declaration to the Federal Revenue Service and that they entered the country illegally.

This Wednesday 15, Eduardo Bolsonaro went to the Chamber rostrum to criticize the visit of the Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino, to the Complexo da Maré, a community group in the north zone of the capital of Rio de Janeiro. Without any evidence, he made allegations about alleged involvement of members of the federal government with organized crime in Rio. On Monday 13 Dino participated in the launch of a bulletin on violence and met several community leaders in the region.

The deputy Glauber Braga (Psol-RJ) reacted to the speeches of Eduardo Bolsonaro and accused the former president of corruption. “He’s here in plenary, so he has to answer the following: Did you return the necklace? Did you return the watch and other R$400,000 items that your father brought home? Because that, MP Eduardo Bolsonaro, is corruption. You have to answer for exactly that. Give back what you took,” Braga said.

The deputy also mentioned other episodes involving the Bolsonaro family. “It’s funny because Congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro, whenever he gets the opportunity, tries to criminalize some community in Rio de Janeiro. But the biggest seizure of guns and rifles was done from where? From his father’s apartment building! Where Was it the big cocaine seizure? On his father’s plane! Well, well, well… Who are you kidding?”

Yesterday, the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) gave former President Jair Bolsonaro up to five days to return the second set of jewelery received from the Saudi Arabian regime. The set, which includes gold pieces such as a watch, pen and cufflinks, is kept in a private location in Bolsonaro, Brazil.

The order provides for the jewels to be sent to the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic, which is located inside Palazzo Planalto. The court also unanimously ruled that the R$ 16.5 million diamond set seized from the Federal Revenue Agency at the Guarulhos (SP) customs office has the same destination, after the conclusion of the investigation into the case .

In addition to the jewels donated by the Saudi regime, the court requested from the UAE the rifle and pistol received from Bolsonaro in 2019. In parallel, a painstaking reconnaissance was carried out of all the gifts the former president has received in his four years of government, as anticipated by Stadium this Wednesday 15. What is not considered a “very personal” gift will have to be integrated into the assets of the Union, and cannot remain with Bolsonaro.

Another decision taken is that, from now on, in the last two months before the end of each term, a comb is made with tight teeth of what may or may not be incorporated by the then president as personal assets.

Jair Bolsonaro’s defense argued that the gifts given by the Saudis were personal property and could be incorporated into the president’s private collection. Speaking about the gifts last week, former President Bolsonaro’s lawyer Frederick Wassef said that Bolsonaro, “acting within the bounds of the law, has officially declared the very personal possessions he received while traveling, without any wrongdoing in their conduct.” . Flávio Bolsonaro also came out of his father’s defense and said that the jewelry boxes were “very personal, regardless of value.”

As revealed Stadium in a series of reports, Bolsonaro acted directly in the case, not only to receive the package of gifts that entered the country, but also to try to recover, in all possible ways, the second package of jewels held at the Revenue Agency. His direct actions are widely documented through official letters, telephone calls, booking a flight with the Brazilian Air Force, formal requests for the removal of jewels, access to ministries and the head of the Revenue Agency himself, with direct pressure on employees of the ‘agency.

Even Bolsonaro has changed his version on the matter. First, he attacked the press and claimed he didn’t know about the jewels. The same position was adopted by Michelle Bolsonaro. A week later, with the profusion of evidence on the matter, she acknowledged that she had received a package and she decided to deliver it.

Former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro left 14-year-old Brasilia on Tuesday morning, bound for Orlando, US, to meet Jair Bolsonaro. Behind the scenes of the Pl, the party of the Bolsonaro couple, the information is that the jewelry scandal will lead the meeting. Michelle has a schedule for March 21 in Brazil, to launch her as president of PL Mulher.

The Revenue Agency has also denied the version presented by former president Jair Bolsonaro and allies according to which the jewels sent by the Saudi Arabia to Brazil it would be for the public good of the Presidency. The Agency specified that, even after indications and clarifications provided by the Revenue Agency according to which the property could be regularized if this were the justification, “this did not happen in the case in question”.

In a note, the Revenue Agency specified that incorporation into the assets of the Union requires a request from the competent authority, which justifies the necessity and opportunity of the provision, such as, for example, the attribution of jewels of significant cultural and historical value, which can be sent to a museum.

“It is not possible to incorporate an asset for anyone’s personal interest, only in case of effective public interest”, informed the institution, further explaining that the government has not submitted a request for the jewels to be treated as an asset of the Union.

The case triggered a series of measures and is currently being examined by the Federal Police, the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Comptroller General’s Office, as well as by the Ethics Commission of the Presidency of the Republic. The Federal Court of Auditors also intervened and will take into custody the second package that entered the country while the case is being investigated. In Congress, a collection of signatures is underway in the Chamber for the installation of a parliamentary commission of inquiry. In the Senate, the scandal will be investigated by the Committee on Transparency, Governance, Inspection and Control and Consumer Protection (CTFC).
