Chinese government says there is no evidence TikTok and ByteDance threaten the safety of US citizens
In the midst of a new battle for the permanence of the Tick tock in the United States, the China blamed the US government of spreading disinformation and trying to shut down TikTok. The statement, released this Thursday 16, is a response to reports that the US government has allegedly requested Byte Danceowner of TikTok, to sell his stake in the video sharing app.
The Chinese government confirmed to the news agency AFP extension that there was an approach by the US government so that the corresponding US operation would be controlled by local companies and not ByteDance.
According to a spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, wang webinthe US has yet to provide evidence that TikTok threatens its national security and has used the data security excuse to abuse its power to crack down on foreign companies.
“The United States must stop spreading misinformation about data security, stop suppressing (TikTok), and provide an open, fair, and non-discriminatory environment for foreign companies to invest and operate in the United States,” Wang said.
TikTok denied a report by the American newspaper on Wednesday 15th Wall Street Journal stating that the Foreign Investment Committee (CFIUS)which is part of the Treasury Department, has threatened to ban the app in the country unless its parent, Beijing-based ByteDance, goes out of business.
“If the goal is to protect national security, divestment does not solve the problem: the change of ownership would not impose new restrictions on data flows or access,” said Maureen Shanahan, a spokeswoman for TikTok.
When contacted, the White House did not comment on the matter./COM AP
