You on Netflix: Could this dead character be back for Season 5?

Warning, spoilers. It is recommended that you watch season 4 of You before continuing reading this article.

At the top of Netflix’s best-watches, season 4 of You is a real hit. Available in two parts, this new burst of episodes has completely changed the viewer’s brain.

In this fourth season, Joe Goldberg (Pen Badgley) escapes his past by leading a new life in London under the name Jonathan Moore. Becoming a professor of literature, the psychopath rose through the ranks of London’s high society thanks to his new connections. But everything changes after a series of murders that only affect the rich.

Joe investigates this mysterious serial killer who is shadowing him and trailing him. Except the second part of Season 4 of the Netflix series reveals that it’s actually Joe who’s behind all the murders. He suffers from a form of schizophrenia and has developed a split personality, with an imaginary presence in the person of Rhys Montrose (Ed Splers).

The latter is the author whose memoirs lifted him out of poverty and launched a career in politics. Joe’s obsession with this man made him lose his sense of reality and he thought that it was Rhys who was responsible for his murder. Except it was Joe.

But the psychopath only realized this after killing the real Reese, who never knew Joe personally. After a few twists and turns, Joe managed to get out of trouble and is now very powerful thanks to his relationship with Kate Galvin (Charlotte Richie).

Will Rhys return for Season 5?

Even if the real Reece is dead, the imaginary Reece accompanying Joe in his murder may still be in the psychopath’s head. Now that he’s in a position of power, Joe may feel invincible and won’t hesitate to kill anyone who wants to see him dead, even if his life is ruined forever.

Especially since one of his victims, Marien (Tati Gabriel), managed to escape his clutches and Joe doesn’t know she’s still alive. And it seems he wants revenge. Netflix hasn’t officially ordered a fifth season for You yet, but Penn Badgley told AlloCiné that the upcoming episodes could be exciting:

“The creators told me a few years ago—well before season four—how the show would end. If there’s a fifth season, it’s going to pick up where we left off. Joe’s power has had to go. And that’s a scary thought. It opens up a lot of possibilities, but it also means that his downfall is more It’s going to be tough. If there’s a season 5, it’s going to be interesting!”

Will this potential season 5 feature the return of the imaginary Rhys? The final blow to the latter’s face in the window could be a clue, especially since Joe and Rhys now seem inseparable. As he explained, his interpreter Ed Spillers is completely ready for it TéléLoisirs :

“I would love to find this role, which I adore. It’s a nice wink, but no one knows what will happen yet…”
