The journalist, famous Mr. Belvedere of PHOTOGRAMS, chose for his celebration the film ‘Girl for marriage’ (‘The Marrying Kind’) by George Cukor.
The Film Library of Catalonia has paid tribute to Jaume Figueras at an event held in collaboration with the Catalan Film Academy. The journalist, critic, exhibitor and disseminator, received the Gaudí Honor Award – Miquel Porter 2023 last January, in recognition of his free and passionate vision as a programmer, and for his contribution to generating vocations for cinema, as well as for his role as a Catalan film programmer and in Catalan. Since 1964 he was part of the PHOTOGRAMS family, hiding behind the name of Mr. Belvedere, character in charge of the famous magazine’s office, until 2015.

The event held on Thursday, March 16 at the Filmoteca de Catalunya began with the projection of the film ‘Girl for marriage’ (‘The Marrying Kind’, George Cukor, 1952)which was followed by a discussion accompanied by the former director of FOTOGRAMAS, Elisenda Nadal, the producer Marta Esteban and the critic Àlex Gorina.
“This film is one of George Cukor’s least valued, and it opened our eyes to the relationship of a couple like I had never intuited. When a priest who was as progressive as he was a movie buff in the homilies of the Piarists in my neighborhood alluded to the influence of cinema in our lives, I always thought that he too had seen ‘The Marrying Kind.’ The film had opened with this publicity appeal: ‘Two months of festivities, two weeks of honeymoon, two years of conjugal peace… And then the war'”.
