After the rape charges were dropped earlier this year, forward Mason Greenwood, of Manchester United, is getting married. According to ‘The Sun’ newspaper, the 21-year-old England player will marry his current girlfriend, who is pregnant.
Greenwood was arrested in January 2022 following assault and rape allegations made by his ex-girlfriend. The athlete was released two days later after posting bail, but returned to prison again in October, being released four days later.
The striker has been away for more than a year from Manchester United which, despite the player’s acquittal, will conduct an internal investigation to decide the athlete’s path. Greenwood’s last game was on 22 January 2022 for the Premier League.
In January this year, Manchester Police said key witnesses in the case had withdrawn their cooperation from the investigation. The new material that emerged also contributed to the dropping of charges against Mason Greenwood.
