The actress who plays Marvel’s Scarlet Witch steps into the shoes of a real assassin in the new HBO Max thriller miniseries from the creator of ‘Big Little Lies’.
Elizabeth Olsen returns to television with ‘Love and Death’an HBO Max series that will hook you this 2023. The Scarlet Witch changes the superheroes of Marvel movies and series for a story based on a chilling true case of a murder in Texas in the 80s. We review the date premiere, cast, synopsis, trailer and more details of this new release.
At the controls of ‘Love and Death’ we find a television veteran, David E. Kelley, responsible for relatively recent hits like ‘Big Little Lies’ and ‘The Undoing’, but also from some of the best lawyer series with ‘The Lawyer’ and ‘Ally McBeal’. In his new job with HBO, however, he bets more on the side of the true crime to tell a story of friendship, betrayal and murder as a writer and executive producer.
Leslie Linka Glatter has been in charge of directing most of the episodes of the season, and also explained in an interview with Vanity Fair what lies at the heart of the story: “It’s about women and men in this era: they did everything right. They married at 20, they had children. Candy’s husband, Pat, was a wonderful support for her and worked as a scientist. They moved to the suburbs. They built the house of their dreams. So why do you feel so deeply empty inside? Why is there a hole in her heart and psyche a mile wide? She makes a horrible decision to fill that void.“.
‘Love and Death’: release date
Aim: the premiere date of the series ‘Love and Death’ is April 28 on HBO Max.
‘Love and Death’: cast
The cast of ‘Love and Death’ is led by Elizabeth Olsen, who plays the infamous Candy. She’s not the first actress to have played this royal character; in fact, Jessica Biel did it last year with the remarkable series ‘Candy’, released on Disney +. Will Olsen raise the bar? The ‘Scarlet Witch and the Vision’ actress (for which she was nominated for an Emmy and a Golden Globe) has certainly risen to the challenge.
Together with her we will find in the cast Lily Rabe (‘American Horror Story’) in the role of Betty Gore, and Jesse Plemons (‘The Power of the Dog’) as her husband Allan Gore. The cast is completed with keir gilchrist (‘Atypical’) as Ron Adams, Krysten Ritter (‘Jessica Jones’) as Sherry Cleckler, Elizabeth Marvel (‘The Dropout’) as Noel Holmes, Patrick Fugit (‘Almost Famous’) as Pat Montgomery, Tom Pelphrey (‘Ozark’) as Don Crowder, Beth Broderick (‘Sabrina, witch things’) as Bertha Pomeroy, Brian d’Arcy James (‘Spotlight’) as Richard Garlington, Mackenzie Astin (‘The Magicians’) as Tom O’Connell, Bruce McGill (‘Reacher’) as Judge Tom Ryan and Fabiola Andujar like Mary Adams.

‘Love and Death’: Synopsis
As we have pointed out, ‘Love and Death’ is based on a true story. There will be changes and creative licenses, without a doubt, but the main story is the one already known to many and that includes the murder of Betty Gore by her bosom friend, Candy.
Before the crime happened, the two were friends and neighbors, but something soon came between them: Candy began to feel attracted to Betty’s husband, Allan, and they both started a secret affair. Candy felt trapped in her status as a privileged suburban homemaker and mother, and this relationship may have stemmed from those frustrations. Although the secret had not yet been revealed, the friendship between Candy and Betty deteriorated, until tensions seem to have escalated more than necessary. On June 13, 1980, when Allan was away on a business trip, Betty was found dead. She had been stabbed 41 times with an ax. Accusing fingers soon pointed at Candy, who was the last person to see her alive.
