‘Brokeback Mountain’ gets on the tables: The film will be transformed into a play

Lucas Hedges and Mike Faist will star in the story.

    ‘Brokeback Mountain’, by Ang Lee, will be adapted for the stage in a play by West End.

    The moving love story between cowboys Ennis del Mar and Jack Twist, played by Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal, will see in its stage adaptation Mike Faist, actor of ‘West Side Story’, and Lucas Hedges, of ‘Boy Erased’, in the leading roles.

    ‘Brokeback Mountain’, which will open at the London theater, Soho Place, next May, It is directed by Jonathan Butterell.

    Faistknown for playing the leader of the Jets, Riff, in the Steven Spielberg musical, will play Jack, while Hedges will play Ennis.

    Adaptation of a short story by Annie Proulx, ‘Brokeback Mountain’ opens in Wyoming in 1963, with Jack and Ennis hired to herd sheep for the summer.

    Jack is of the opinion that he and Ennis should be together, while Ennis is reticent, fighting his internalized homophobia.

    Lee’s film premiered at the 2005 Venice International Film Festival and was a commercial success during its theatrical release that same year.

    It received several awards, including three Oscars: Best Director for Lee, Best Adapted Screenplay for Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana, and Best Original Score for Gustavo Santaolalla. Gyllenhaal and Ledger were nominated in the acting categories, and Michelle Williams received a nomination for her role as Alma Beers del Mar, Ennis’s wife.

    The film also stars Anne Hathaway as Lureen Newsome Twist, a rodeo horsewoman and Jack’s wife, with Linda Cardellini, Anna Faris, Kate Mara and David Harbor in supporting roles.

    The stage adaptation of ‘Brokeback Mountain’ will be released on May 10.
