An 8-year-old boy, the son of a military police officer, died after receiving an accidental shot while handling his father’s gun in the municipality of Mascote, in southern Bahia, this Tuesday 21.
According to the Civil Police informed the Earth, the child has been identified as Nicollas Brito Santana. According to still preliminary information, the boy would have shot himself with his father’s gun, who is a second lieutenant in the PM.
The boy was taken to Manoel Novaes hospital in Itabuna, but could not resist. The case was registered as an accidental death at the 6th Regional Coordination of the Interior Police (Coorpin/Itabuna), where it will remain under investigation.
In an interview with Tv Globo, the boy’s grandfather reported that the gun was hidden above the wardrobe, in one of the rooms of the house, and that he can’t say what prompted the boy to pick up the object.
“He was a very nice, calm guy. He went over there, got the gun and when he raised his hand he must have certainly grabbed the trigger and fired. When we got there [no quarto]it was already on the floor,” Gilvan Cardoso told the station.
