What is it about?
Based on the novel by Matthew Quirk, Night Agent is a sophisticated character-driven action thriller. A junior FBI agent working in the White House basement is responsible for a phone that never rings… until one night that changes everything. Suddenly projected into a breathless and dangerous plot, he ascends to the highest realms, the Oval Office.

mad dash
After the huge success of The Recruit (starring Noah Centineo), which was quickly renewed for a second season, Netflix is today launching a new spy series, Night Agent, that follows more or less the same recipe.
This time around, this Sean Ryan creation—which owes its name to The Shield, but which signs a much more mainstream series here—focuses on Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso), an FBI agent who finds himself embroiled in a massive conspiracy.
Assigned a nightly phone that must never ring, Peter is on duty the night the phone rings. On the other end of the line he has a young woman in distress, Rose Larkin (Lucian Buchanan). An aunt and uncle have just been killed by professional assassins, and the line is ultra-confidential, according to their order.

Rose snaps out of it, and Diane Farr (Hong Chow), chief of staff to the President of the United States, entrusts Peter with protecting the young woman. It’s the start of a hellish race where Rose and Peter both have to outrun two assassins on the loose and discover who’s the carpetbagger in the White House and who’s a threat to national security.
Between the young and attractive cast and the efficiency of Sean Ryan’s writing, the streaming giant has established the perfect recipe for producing an addictive series with its share of action and twists. A recipe that is almost always a great success with its customers.
If the opening minutes are distinctly reminiscent of Bodyguard (see excerpt above), The Night Agent quickly departs from the British model. The series seeks less truth than efficiency and instant gratification for the audience, all at a frenetic pace.
The first season is 10 episodes packed into an average of 45 minutes, delivered simultaneously.
