On the unbeatable Disney classic, this new quiz is made for you! If you know all the details and pictures of the cartoons from your childhood, you should definitely go through our questions about the crowns of our favorite princes and princesses.
On the heads of kings and queens, in grand treasures or stolen from the glories of this world, Disney crowns are specific to each movie they appear in and are never the same… or so little! Try to identify them in our quiz:
When it was released in 1959, Sleeping Beauty was the most expensive animated film ever made, costing an estimated $6 million (more than $67 million today). The budget exploded as the film took more than six years to complete, due to Walt Disney’s tendency to multiply side projects (especially at Disney’s first park), forcing his teams to work on the film whenever they had time.
The film did poorly at the box office and Walt Disney realized that Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs, Pinocchio, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan and Cinderella, fairy tales were no longer successful. So he turns to different stories like 101 Dalmatians, Merlin the Wizard or (before his death) The Jungle Book.
Artist Eivind Earle oversaw the film’s visual approach (and hand-painted almost all the backgrounds!). An approach he wanted (with Walt Disney’s blessing) to an “animated tapestry” inspired by the famous Unicorn Hunt in particular and Manhattan’s Medieval Art Gallery more generally. Walt Disney gave carte blanche to Eivind Earle, much to the chagrin of the studio’s animators, who had to follow his instructions to the letter.
