Lollapalooza 2023: artists you may not know but should hear at the festival

Highlights include Brisa Flow, the first indigenous artist in the event’s lineup, Korean band The Rose and Curitiba-based feminist group ‘Mulamba’

Although some great artists have retired along the way (there were five in all: Omar Apollo, Blink-182, Dominic Fike, 100gecs and Willow), the tenth edition of Lollapalooza Brazil comes with big names in its line-up.

In 2023, the 20-something generation, or so-called Generation Z, shines on stage. Billie Eilish, at just 21, is one of the headliners and proves that age has nothing to do with talent. This is the singer’s first time in Brazil. Today she is considered one of the most important and awarded names in pop music. Together with Billie, the American singer gray cone23 years old, who had his first album at number five on the Billboard 200 in 2020. And also Mochakk, stage name of Brazilian DJ Pedro Maia, who performs on Saturdays at 7pm.

Women dominate the electronic scene with a total of 14 DJs, Brazilian and foreign, performing on stage at Johnie Walker Blonde’s Perry’s. Among them, the Brazilian Curol, from Belo Horizonte, who brings Afro references to her music, creating a very original and quality sound. Also noteworthy is Nora En Pure, a Swiss-South African deep house DJ and producer.

And speaking of diversity, many bands and groups bring activism to the stage. ‘Black Pantera’ miners tackle topics such as racism and discrimination in their Heavy Metal songs. The members, Charles Gama, Chaene da Gama and Rodrigo “Pancho” Augusto, are black and created the band in honor of the Black Panthers, a movement that defended the civil rights of the black community in 1966.

The number of Brazilians also shows the importance that the festival places on promoting national music. Overall there are 38 performances by artists from the most varied regions of Brazil. One of those that promises to make history is the plant and rootwho will celebrate 25 years of career by bringing the group from Bahia Olodum. This will be the first national reggae band to play the festival.
