What is it about?

Boxing coach Sienna Lane discovers her boyfriend Jax, the reigning champion, is cheating on her with his sister. He decides to take revenge and train the only man who can take him down: his sworn enemy Cayden, who comes from the underground fighting.

who is he with

Kiana Madeira, who you may have seen in After, Trinkets (a good Netflix series that I recommend!) and Fear Street, stars in Perfect Addiction.

Her character falls under the spell of Matthew Noska (Flakes of Love) and Ross Butler (Riverdale, 13 Reasons Why), two faces that should tell you something if you’re a Netflix fan. Manuel Bennett (Arrow, The Shanara Chronicles) rounds out this pretty interesting cast for this type of production.

Is it worth seeing?

From the poster to the synopsis to its origin, Perfect Addiction appears to be the perfect follow-up to a mildly erotic teenage saga. This is also the stated ambition of Prime Video, which bought the broadcast rights to the post-pandemic franchise and which is betting on the new WattPad phenomenon.

It’s 2015 when Claudia Tan publishes one of her stories on an American social network, centered on a romance in the midst of boxing. The success was immediate, and the young woman began to write a sequel. His novel attracts the attention of studios and publishers. And it’s the streaming platform that wins the bet.

If his Perfect Addiction suffers in comparison to the next one, it’s safe to say that it’s better, not necessarily movie of the year. But it avoids falling into levity and sentimentality. We’re obviously talking about toxic relationships, cheating, and love stories (plural).

We’re also treated to some ole ole scenes, including the trio in a very steamy shower. But Kiana Madeira seems to believe it more than the slightly bland Josephine Langford, who gives next to nothing on screen.

He is credible as a professional boxer who remains in the shadow of others. Matthew Noska and Ross Butler are also quite convincing. First as a toxic and combative athlete and second as a mysterious boxer hiding his past.

We can blame the characters for a lack of complexity, but if Prime Video has the ambition to make it a franchise, it’s time to work on their writing even more for a possible second installment.

It must be said that Claudia Tan currently has four novels under her belt (Perfect Illusion, Perfect Addiction, Perfect Redemption and Perfect Ruin) and we should be hearing about this saga for a few more years if it is successful.
