After a week of uncertainty on the stage of the first leg of the Paulista Championship final, the São Paulo Football Federation (FPF) has chosen the Barueri Arena to host the match between Água Santa and Palmeiras, on April 2nd at 4pm (from Brasilia) , under the command of the Diadema team. Verdão, in the last decision on the spot, came out ahead.
The duel in question is the 2012 Copa do Brasil final against Coritiba, which ended with a 2-0 victory in Barueri, with goals from Thiago Heleno and Valdivia. In the return match, the teams drew 1-1 and Palestra won the title.
More recently, Abel Ferreira’s team played an elimination duel, but at an earlier stage. In 2022, Palmeiras beat Juazeirense-BA, 2-1, in a second leg match of the third round of the Copa do Brasil and took their place for the round of 16.
Overall, Palmeiras have a favorable record playing in the city outside the capital São Paulo. There are 30 matches in all, adding up 19 wins, seven draws and only four defeats. Of the last five games played there, Verdão have won all of them.
For Paulista, since the inauguration of the Barueri Arena in 2007, Palmeiras has played five games, three of them as principal – Sertãozinho (3-0), Mirassol (2-2) and Linense (3-0) and two as guest. The latter condition will be found by the club in the Paulista final. Of these, Verdão won both: 3-0 against Grêmio Barueri, in 2008, and 1-0 against Oeste, in 2019.
