Lollapalooza 2023: Willing Fans Line Up Early For The Idols Who ‘Saved’ Them

The passion for the artists and the deep identification with the texts provoke fanatics at the festival

Whether it’s the feeling it provokes or the representation it brings, music – and its musicians – can transform lives. And that’s why fans do crazy things to show that love. Igor Ferreira, 24, was required to stay from 11pm yesterday to Lollapalooza to secure a spot on the grid to watch the North American duo Twenty one pilots.

“We left the house on Thursday (the 23rd) and got here around midnight. We stood in line and spent the whole day on the railing to see Billie (Eilish). Then we went home and changed and got come back here,” he said. she admits she.

To resist, the secret is to plan. “The sun helps you sweat, so you don’t feel like going to the bathroom. You just drink a little water to clear your throat,” she says.

“I avoid eating it, because it ruins. Last show I went, ate a hot dog, felt sick and got sick in the queue. I had to leave,” said Igor’s friend Everton Oliveira, 28.

Like him, the friends he made at the band’s other concerts also risked their health for the idol. “It’s always like this, we go to the show and say ‘I’ll never do it again.’ And then we go there and we do it,” jokes Pamela Ferraz Santos, 24.

Twenty One Pilots replaced the Blink-182s

The band Twenty One Pilots perform at 21:30 on the Budweiser stage as a replacement for Blink-182, who had to cancel due to drummer Travis Baker’s torn finger ligament.

In early March, when Blink-182 canceled their appearance, internet hoopla was high. With several people saying they’ve had second thoughts about going to the festival. But, as everything indicates from the large number of people queuing at Gate A, the swap pleased many fans.

Twenty One Pilots are an American band formed by Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun with music ranging from hip hop, pop and rock. His lyrics bring reflections and digressions on society, the universe of music and even the meaning of the world. Vivian Botoria, 22, says her lyrics have helped her out of deep sadness.

“I arrived at 00:30, straight from the bus station. I was having one of the worst days of my life when they announced this show. I had to go through a lot to get here. But I’m very excited,” she said, who came from Santos.

“Pitty’s song was a breakthrough for me”

It was the same with administrative assistant Filipi de Oliveira, 34, who is a fan of the Bahian rock singer Sin since I was 13. “I’ve been following her since 2000, and during that time, as a youngster, I had to deal with teenage issues, a lot of bullying. And her music was a game changer for me. I started seeing the world differently and started facing my fear” , says he, who arrived at 7:30 in the morning. “When I saw the size of the queue I thought, ‘It’s for other artists, thank God.'”

Despite the dedication, it is not the first time that Filipi has seen the singer’s show. “I went to his first show with my mother at Sesc Interlagos. Since then, I’ve seen Pitty about 300 times. Next week I have his show in São José dos Campos, then in Rio de Janeiro,” he said enthusiastically.

Pitty performs at 2.40pm on the Adidas stage. After a successful tour alongside Nando Reis, Pitty celebrates the 20th anniversary of his first album Brave new chip to the Lollapalooza.

The situation is different for 24-year-old physics student Alisson Silva. In 2016, when the group tame Impala performed at Lollapalooza, he could not leave Brasilia, his hometown, to watch them. But this year, since he was doing his master’s here, he took a break from his studies to watch idols. “I arrived around 8 at gate G, but I decided to come here because I thought entry would be easier,” he said. “Destiny brought me here this year and I think it will be an indescribable feeling. It’s a truly unique style.”
