The runner-up takes a turn and continues a poor start to the year
World number four and current vice-champion at the Masters 1000 in Miami, Florida, Casper Ruud is following his poor start to the season. Earlier this Monday, the Norwegian was eliminated in the third round.
Ruud lost against the Dutch Botic Van de Zandschulp, in 32nd place, for 2 sets to 1 with partials of 3/6 6/4 6/4 after 2h50min of battle which closed the programming of the Hard Rock’s central court Stadium.
The Nordic, runner-up at the US Open and Roland Garros, had a break in the second set and at the start of the third and lost a ton of unused break points. The Dutchman turned after being 1/3 down in the third and saving breaks in the third game to avoid a second break.
There are now eleven matches in 2023 and only five wins for the Norwegian who continues without winning in a row in the same tournament.
Zandschulp faces Finn Emil Ruusuvuori in the round of 16.
