Eric Besnard’s fourth film, My Heroes is also the director’s fourth collaboration with Clovis Kornilak. In 2008, the duo began a partnership: the actor and director then worked together on the film The New Protocol, where the former was the headliner and the latter was the screenwriter. In the same year, Clovis Cornillac also plays in Ca$h, then in 2010 in 600 kilos of pure gold, two productions by Eric Besnard.
In My Heroes, the filmmaker draws inspiration from his relationship with his mother and more generally about a child’s relationship with their parents as they grow into adulthood and, in turn, have children. Thus, the film tells the story of Maxime, an entrepreneur who does everything to save an ambulance company – until he loses his wife and children. One day, he goes to look for his mother, Olga, who has been arrested by the police, and brings Jacques, his father, home. He then decides to spend some time with his eccentric parents, whose relationship is as tumultuous as it is loving: it’s an opportunity for him to reflect on his own life…while his parents hide a young boy whose mother is in an irregular state. The situation is threatened with expulsion!
Human, tender and beautifully written, Mes Héros is a delicate and faithful comedy that marks the return of duo Josiane Balasko/Gérard Jugnot in front of the camera. With its caustic dialogues, the film recalls the dialogues of Jean Becker with its family and country atmosphere and rural scenes.
Jacques and Olga are our parents, our grandparents, our uncle and aunt: an old couple full of love and madness, as we often see, who argue and love each other, seek and find each other, and whom we secretly admire with kindness. . A true tribute to family, the comedy turns its star couple into more ordinary, everyday characters. Interestingly, the feature film makes us see our parents differently.
Full of emotion and good feelings, Mes Héros supports Carpe Diem and adds a flavor of resistance and humanism, in addition to offering a gentle look at growing old together. A story that warms the hearts and is good to watch, preferably with the family.
