Did you know that Baby Kellerman was gearing up for a big comeback out of retirement? With last night’s screening of the cult film Dirty Dancing on TMC, we’re taking a look at the sequel slated to hit our theaters in 2024.

In 1987, Jennifer Gray and Patrick Swayze lit up the screens with the romantic comedy Dirty Dancing. Directed by Emile Ardolino, the feature film sees Baby (Jennifer Grey), a young girl arriving for a family summer vacation at a vacation club, falls under the spell of a dance instructor played by the late Patrick Swayze.

It grossed over $218 million at the international box office during its release and won an Oscar for Best Original Song for the title track. (I had) the time of my lifeDirty Dancing quickly established itself as a reference romantic comedy.

A sequel in the form of a remake was released in 2004, starring Diego Luna and Romola Garay, and in 2017, Abigail Breslin and Colt Prates played the iconic couple in a new version.

In May 2022, Jennifer Gray announced that she would be reprising the role that made her famous in the official sequel to Dirty Dancing.

Official at CinemaCon, Dirty Dancing 2 marks the return of Kellerman’s baby from retirement, 36 years after his memorable summer with Johnny.

While Patrick Swayze made a brief appearance in 2004’s Dirty Dancing 2, this is the first time Jennifer Gray is back.

In July 2022, Jennifer Gray announced on the set of the show Good morning America I want to make this movie in honor of Patrick Swayze and fans of the 1987 movie.

Directed by Jonathan Levine (Warm Bodies) and written by Mickey Daughtry and Tobias Iaconis (Two Meters From You), the film is a direct sequel to Emile Ardolino’s film and will be released on February 9, 2024 in the United States.
