‘John Wick 4’ is not the end of the franchise: a new movie is announced by surprise

Nine years ago the first film about John Wick arrived, a franchise that has managed to maintain the throne of the best action plot thanks to impressive settings and the extremely creative ways in which its main character kills his enemies. Not surprisingly, John Wick inspired other big action franchises. With ‘John Wick 4’, released in theaters since last Friday, our most beloved hit man from the big screen was supposedly retiring. Dear in part thanks to the good work of its protagonist Keanu Reeves. However, it was not a final goodbye: the fans are in luck because Lionsgate intends to expand the franchise.

These have been the words of Erica Lee, the producer of the saga. “There’s another movie we’re developing that I think we’ll announce in a month or two or so. Then I hope there will be ‘Ballerina 2’ and ‘John Wick 5’ and many other things. But we’re developing a lot of things and having a lot of discussions with a lot of writers and brand managers, and the Wick universe is my top priority.”

Given the good reception of ‘John Wick 4’ in theaters at its premiere, it was normal for a new project to come out sooner or later.

What could the unannounced John Wick movie be about?

(Spoilers for ‘John Wick 4’ ahead) For now, we only have one movie in the works. However, from Collider they point out that it can be expected that we will come across a duel between Akira (Rina Sawayama) and Caine (Donnie Yen) as the post-credit scene of ‘John Wick 4’ promises us. Plus, it makes sense that Lee is already thinking about ‘Ballerina 2’, as the upcoming spin-off will introduce a new action heroine who may become the successor to John Wick. However, the most perplexing project on Lee’s list would be ‘John Wick 5’. John dies a free man at the end of this fourth film, and pulling him out of the grave can undermine the great emotional impact of his departure.

Be that as it may, things should clear up in the coming months when Lionsgate reveals what the unannounced movie is about. Later this year, we will also be able to see ‘The Continental’, the spin-off series of the franchise that we will see in Spain on Prime Video, and with ‘Ballerina’ already in production, the future of the franchise is secure for now.

‘John Wick 4’ is currently available in theaters. In this new installment we have seen the legendary retired assassin traveling from Japan to finally France, returning to action driven by an uncontrollable search for revenge. Having to fight bloodthirsty killers on his tail, John will have to push his skills to the limit if he wants to make it out alive this time.
