Stevie Nicks, Bianca Jagger and the 70s aesthetic are a reference to the series available on Prime Video
All episodes of “Daisy Jones and The Six” are now available on Prime Video as a fictionalized recording of 1970s music, behavior and fashion. Adapted from Taylor Jenkins Reid’s book of the same name, the series references the personalities of the day like Stevie Nicks and Cher, who marked the generation.
“When we talk about costumes, about fashion, we find in each character all the styles that were in vogue at that time”, begins the fashion journalist and content creator of the “Fashion Chronicles” page, Maria Landeiro.
“There’s Daisy (Riley Keough), who has a more hippie style and is very inspired by Stevie Nicks. She wore a lot of kimonos, bell bottoms, crochet. (…) And there’s a mix there with Cher, who takes on a more glamorous side, those furs, the more they shine when the band starts to have more success”, analyzes the journalist.
As Maria points out, Stevie is an obvious reference in character makeup. Her band, Fleetwood Mac, and the backstage recording of the iconic album “Rumors” are the inspiration for the whole story, as already stated by the author.
For this reason, the journalist recalls that the team took extra care so that the adaptation does not resemble an artist biography.
Each character, a style
Just as Daisy personified the hippie style, Camila Dunne (Camila Morrone) carried the elegance of the time. “Camila has many references to Bianca Jagger, who has a similar story to hers,” recalls the content creator.
Bianca was the wife of Mick Jagger and a fashion icon of the time. In her character, inspiration appears with the use of a boho, vintage and romantic aesthetic, always very elegant.
Playing Billy Dunne’s wife, Camila Morrone has commented on her looks in the series. According to the actress, some of the women used as references were actresses Ali MacGraw, Sharon Tate, Cher and Jane Birkin, the latter two also singers.
Boho is still part of the style by Simone Jackson, role of the Brazilian Nabiyah Be in the series. But only in the early years of the storyline, when the character is still finding his way into music. As she establishes her own style, the “disco pioneer” begins sporting sparkles, a bare back, a spread collar, and other elements of the decade.
“Inspired by Diana Ross for me”, underlines Maria, who has defined the style as “the age of brilliantine”.
For Karen (Suki Waterhouse), far from the references to the “flower power” seen in the other characters, the costume designer of the series said that the composition came from keyboardist and singer Christine McVie, also of Fleetwood Mac. Other names have emerged from her .
“I know a lot of pictures of Patti Smith in New York in the 70s. I used a lot of pictures of Ann and Nancy Wilson,” Denise Wingate told “Glamour.”
Will Daisy Jones fashion catch on?
With the success of the series, it’s not hard to imagine the look of the characters making a comeback. For Maria this is more than possible, after all “what was fashionable in the 70s has become a style”. It refers, for example, to the boho, still used today by those who have adopted this aesthetic.
Other elements present there, such as the baggy pants, tops and crochet, they returned to the showcase years ago and show no sign of leaving.
