The body of teacher Elisabete Tenreiro, 71, killed by an eighth grade student during a knife attack at the Thomazia Montoro State School, was laid to rest on Tuesday 28 at the Cemitério do Araçá, in the west area of São Paulo.
The teacher has been teaching science at the institute since the beginning of the year. Stabbed inside the courtroom during roll call this Monday 27, Elisabete was rescued, but she suffered cardiac arrest and died at the USP University Hospital.
The elderly woman had three children and four grandchildren, she was a supporter of Science and in her social networks she loved to underline the importance of vaccination. She also always exchanged messages of affection with family, friends and former students.
The teacher has already worked at the Adolfo Lutz Institute as a technician. She has been teaching since 2015. In 2020 she retired from the institution and continued to teach.
The teacher’s death caused turmoil across the country, with internet users, politicians, teachers and trade unions lamenting the incident.
According to Globe TVor The burial of the educator is scheduled for 12:00. The ceremony will be reserved for family and friends.
In a statement posted on its official website, the Association of Scientific Researchers of the State of São Paulo (APqC) mourned the teacher’s death and said it believes in transformation through education.
“At age 71, Elisabete was in the classroom, championing science, because she believed in transformation through education. The violence that took Elisabete’s life needs to be addressed in its causes, so a culture of peace in society and prevent crimes like this. Today is a day of great sadness, especially for Elisabete’s family, but also for all the scientists and civil servants who have worked with her for decades at the Adolfo Lutz Institute, the institution responsible for laboratory analyzes and diagnosis of diseases”, highlighted the association.
