‘James Bond’: Christoph Waltz defends one of the plot controversies of ‘Spectre’

“It’s a sensational twist.”

Christoph Waltz has weighed in on one of the most controversial moments in the ‘James Bond’ franchise in recent years.

The award-winning actor has played Ernst Stavro BlofeldBond enemy, in the two most recent films about the English spy, played by Daniel Craig: ‘Spectre’, by Sam Mendes, and ‘No Time To Die’, by Cary Joji Fukunaga.

In ‘Spectre’, a turning point occurs in the relationship between 007 and the villain when it is revealed that Blofeld isneither more nor less than, Bond’s adoptive half-brother. Although not all fans agreed with the creative decision to have the two characters share family history, Waltz thought it was a “sensational” development.

I think from a dramatic point of view it’s a sensational twist.“, commented the actor for CinemaBlend.

Fabulous conflict, fabulous connection, and very useful for the stories. That’s what I felt about it. Sharpens the conflict. Anything that increases conflict is useful in a drama.”

For his part, Mendes hasn’t been so nice with ‘Spectre’ as Waltz. Speaking of his Bond films, the ‘Empire of Light’ director compared his 007 debut, ‘Skyfall’, to its 2015 sequel, admitting that the latter was not as good as its predecessor.

These movies are so hard to write. In those 10 months of inactivity, that’s when the script really took a turn. We had time to go down blind alleys and try things,” Mendes told The Hollywood Reporter last year. “I didn’t have that time when we did ‘Spectre.’ And you can tell the difference in the script“.

Now that Craig has retired from the spy saga, The search continues for who will wear Bond’s tuxedo. Some names have already been considered in relation to the coveted role, still without result.
