According to the synopsis of ‘Asteroid City’, the new Wes Anderson film will take us to the 50s, to a fictitious and desert version of a town in the United States. There we will attend a convention of space cadets, organized to bring together students and parents from all parts of the country for a friendly competition, which will be interrupted by events that could change the world as we know it.
As we pointed out, the film was shot between Chinchón and Colmenar de Oreja, municipalities of the Community of Madrid. A good part of the cast stayed at the Chinchón Parador during the course of filming. The exteriors were filmed on the Chinchón and Colmenar de Oreja highway, occupying part of both municipalities, while some interiors were shot at the Diéguez Theater in Colmenar de Oreja. Among the locations in the area that were of interest to Wes Anderson are the Valdelaguna aerodrome and the Aranjuez Golf Club. Finally, the Municipal Hospedería of the municipality served to cast the group of local extras who participated in the production.
