What if the elements had emotions?
Although Pixar will soon take us on a secret mission into uncharted space with Chris Evans (in the original voice) as a new space agent in ‘Lightyear’, Pixar is ready to bring us back to earth… and that as they have declared from the company, It is based on the classic elements: fire, water, earth and air. Some elements mix with each other, and some don’t. What if these elements were alive? This is the question from which what will be the studio’s 27th film starts. Let’s explore what they’re up to.
‘Elementary’ Synopsis
Pixar has spent decades showing that relationships between budding friends turn hot and cold, but with ‘Elemental’, this matter becomes much more literal. According to the studio’s official press release, “The film travels with an unlikely couple, Ember and Wade, in a city where residents of fire, water, earth and air coexist. The girl of fire and boy of water are about to discover something elemental: how much they really have in common.“.
Without giving more details (and seeing the concept art that they have shared), Pixar will once again show how the differences are what enrich, a premise that they have carried in almost all their stories, from ‘Toy Story’, ‘Inside Out’ or ‘ Luca’.
‘Elementary’ Principal
When it comes to creating characters that bring fire and water to life, it’s a job Pixar shouldn’t have too much trouble with, given the impressive CGI magic they’ve provided over the years. A particular entry in the studio’s pantheon of hits that built a photorealistic world replete with dusty landscapes and rushing water was ‘Arlo’s Journey’. Released in 2015, the film did not receive as much critical acclaim as its predecessor Inside Out. However, it is a story that continues to work. Peter Sonn He was the director of that story, in addition to being in charge of the short film ‘Partially cloudy’, from 2009.

Now Sohn will be in charge of directing ‘Elemental’, in which he captures something of his personal life, since for this plot he has been inspired by his youth while growing up in New York.
“My parents immigrated from Korea in the early 1970s and built a busy grocery store in the Bronx. We were one of many families who ventured to a new land with hopes and dreams, all mixed together in one great shaker of cultures, languages, and beautiful little neighborhoods. That’s what got me into Elemental.”
‘Elementary’ release date
Marked as the 27th film on Pixar’s list of films, ‘Elemental’ will arrive in June 2023, just over a year after the film was announced.
Given the long wait between ‘Lightyear’ and this new story, we may see a studio film in theaters again, with ‘Onward’ being the last film.
But the pandemic still affects the box office and Pixar has continued to bet on the premiere on the Disney + platform. ‘Red’, the company’s latest film, received much praise from critics although it did not go to theaters, like Luca and Soul before it. Since ‘Lightyear’ seems to be going to theaters, let’s hope that the other releases like ‘Elemental’ follow that path next summer.
‘Elementary’ Images
Pixar has announced its next adventure with a concept art and the movie logo.
In the image – which is somewhat reminiscent of ‘Inside Out’ or the souls of ‘Soul’ – it shows the design of Ember and Wade, with a design that perfectly supports their clashing personalities. Ember seems more serious and more suspicious than her partner made of water, smiling and looking at the clouds. As secondary, we see characters that walk down the street in the form of trees, or beings made of wind, other inhabitants of this world that we will meet in 2023.
