In one of the most anticipated animations of 2023, Seth Rogen interprets donkey kong in Super Mario Bros. The filmadaptation of the iconic video game franchise by nintendo. However, the actor was heavily criticized for not making a different voice for the character without variations – and he spoke about it. The film opens on April 6, 2023 in Brazilian theaters.
During an interview with comicbook.com, rogen admitted how acting as donkey kong in the production, he doesn’t deviate much from his own voice. “I was very clear, I don’t do voices. And if you want me to be in this movie, it’s going to sound like me and that’s it,” stated the actor. “And that was the beginning and end of that conversation. I was like, ‘If you want me to donkey kong sounds a lot like me, I’m your guy.'”
But it seemed to work, you know, I think in the movie and in the game, everything you really know about donkey kong is that he plays barrels and doesn’t really like Mario.
“Honestly, it was with this idea that he hates Mariothat they have an antagonistic relationship, that he’s annoyed with him, that he doesn’t want to be stuck with him, that he’d like to be on this adventure without him,” continued the conversation. “For me, that was funny, and that was the root of the character, and it kind of grew out of the mythology of the games.”
