What are you doing?
Vadim, the wise man, and Antigone, the rebel, are about to return to college in Paris. Charismatic, siblings leave no one indifferent. Especially not Yasmin, so smart… as appetizing. Because Vadim and Antigone are not human, they are ogres.
The twins, their father Ambroise, a sophisticated cook, and their grandmother Rosa, who is losing her mind, try to remain inconspicuous. They hastily left Serbia after the dark story of uncontrolled swallowing. It’s not easy to stay in the shadows when you’re tempted to swallow your friends or neighbor and run away from the past you hear. And then there is love, even when you are an ogre. And love often has its place…

A series that takes us into the everyday life of a family of ogres
For several years, France TV Slash shines with its originality, offering series that are more ambitious and unique than each other. It happened again with Caro Nostra.
Loosely adapted from the El Diablo comic, A man of tasteCaro Nostra is a five-part TV series directed by Antoine Bess. The screenplay is written by El Diablo, Jean-Pierre Pascoe, Iris Jesse and Antoine Bess with Fanny Talmon.
For this series, France TV Slash called Abraham Wapler (Lycée Toulouse-Lautrec) and Ella Pellegrini (Les liaisonsdangereuses), who play the roles of Vadim and Antigone.
Nicolas Wanczyk (Lupin), Annie Mercier (Anais Loves), Sonia Fayed (Maternity), Diong-Keba Taku (Syndrome E), Grégoire Isvarin (Snake), Sandra Parfay (Secret of Debt), Ike Zakzongo – Cast Joseph, Julia Abis (Revenge of the Glitter Shrimp), Lillian Rover (Ten Percent) and Claire Pato (The Intern).
The series begins with Antigone, a young student jogging through the woods, when a hooded young man appears out of nowhere and tries to rape her. At this moment, the latter does not know that Antigone is not a person, but an ogre hungry for fresh meat. After she’s robbed, she urges her family to dispose of the body, which of course will serve as food for the vegans.
After years of exile in Serbia, the Vigans, the last known clan of ogres, have returned to Paris to try to lead a lowly life. But staying in the shadows isn’t easy when you’re tempted to devour those around you. So when the past catches up with you and love is on the way, things definitely don’t get any easier for this family of ogres.
It takes us on a delicious and crazy story between wise Vadim and rebellious Antigone, their father Ambroise, a sophisticated chef who runs a small brasserie in Paris, and Rosa, a grandmother who is losing her mind in Caro Nostra.
“Caro Nostra’s ogres, the Vigans, run a restaurant that allows them to reconcile their integration and their “anthropophagy.”Director Antoine Besse explains in a press release, adding:
“But this bond is first and foremost a family with its flaws and suffering. Twins Antigone and Vadim bond, but their relationship falters as Antigone’s desire for revenge and emancipation grows and Vadim’s passion for Yasmin, the person he falls in love with, consumes him. This trans-species love is the heart of the Caro Nostra series.“
A horror series with dark humor, Caro Nostra puts us in the plight of a family of ogres, both atypical and endearing. A universal story about a family whose forte is the transition to fantasy.
For Senéd Dab, director of digital fiction at Télévision France. The time has come for genre series to take an interest in these mythological figures, well-entrenched in French culture, who are ogres.
The desire to break free from the shackles and preconceived notions of this genre on television was a very exciting ambition for geeks like us. Honest and meticulous, the world created by El Diablo, Pascoe and Iris de Jess, brilliantly brought to life by Antoine Besse, will continue Slash’s ambitions for unfettered and unfettered fiction.“.
While revisiting these mythological figures, Caro Nostra does not forget to address many social issues such as xenophobia, generational conflicts, impossible loves and the agony of coming of age.
Add to that a charming plot with well-polished staging, and we have all the ingredients for a good time.
Caro Nostra, a nice surprise to see absolutely.
