‘Lack of Respect’: Big Bang Theory Episode Threatens to Be Deleted?

Fourteen years after it aired, an episode of The Big Bang Theory remains controversial. As reported by The Telegraph, Indian political analyst Mithun Vijay Kumar did raise the issue on Twitter and said he had sent a legal notice to Netflix. In it, he demands the removal of the first episode of the show’s season 2, which contains a derogatory term against actress Madhuri Dixit.

In the episode, Raj (Kunal Nayyar) and Sheldon (Jim Parsons) are indeed comparing two Bollywood actors. Then the former said to the latter, “Aishwarya Rai is a goddess. In comparison, Madhuri Dixit is a leprous whore.”

Mithun Vijay Kumar points out that the remarks made by the character are not only offensive but also defamatory. She asked the streaming giant to remove the controversial episode or face legal action for encouraging this discrimination against women. A legal notice has been sent to Netflix’s office in Mumbai.

Recently, I came across an episode of the Netflix show The Big Bang Theory where Kunal Nayyar’s character uses an insulting and derogatory term towards the legendary Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit. Being a fan of Madhuri Dixit since childhood, I was really bothered by the dialogues. I found them very degrading and insulting to Indian culture and women.

He follows: “So I asked my lawyer to send a legal notice to Netflix asking them to remove the episode from their platform. It is important to hold media companies accountable for the content they distribute and I hope Netflix India takes this issue seriously.
