Up: The sequel or the most moving Pixar movie ever

Pixar and Disney’s next film, Elementary, will hit theaters on June 21, 2023, but will not be shown independently. As reported by ComicBook , a new Up short film called Carl’s Date will premiere before Elementary and will pay tribute to the late Ed Asner, who provided his iconic voice for Carl Fredriksen in the original version.

Pull out your tissues, the lovely Carl and his funny dog Doug are back. In the short film written and directed by Bob Peterson (who also voices Doug in the original version), an old man reluctantly agrees to go on his first date with his friend after the death of his dear and tender Ellie. However, she has no idea how dating works these days. So Doug will have to help calm Carl down and offer him some tips for making friends… which can only come in handy if you’re a dog!

Fans scream scandal and yet…

Carl and Ellie’s story is so touching and painful that it’s no wonder some fans are against Carl continuing. Some even took to Twitter to express their feelings, going so far as to say what it would be like to cheat on her. However, others pointed out that Eli’s last message to Carl – “Thanks for the adventure. Live a different life now.“- there was encouragement in this direction.

The fans as they see Carl leave.

Didn’t you notice that in the movie? Ellie wants Carl to move and is that the main plot of the movie? Don’t let go.

…he’s just a friend!

But Bob Peterson has already addressed the issue with the press during a special screening of the short film.

Carl will never be replaced by Ellie. It’s just friendship. It’s just a tribute to her, Ellie, who said, “Go live a new adventure.” And really puts it to the test. Should he do it or not?

She also confirmed that never say never, Carl’s date serves to close the Up storyline.

Now I think it’s a bow to history“, he said. “I think it’s a great way to end this little miniseries.

The director also mentioned Ed Asner, who sadly passed away in 2021, shortly after recording his voice for Carl’s Date. Faced with the event, he believes it’s a great way to end the story, adding that he was honored to work with the legendary actor, a “bitter but funny” man he hopes to honor today.

Carle’s Date will therefore be broadcast in cinemas before each primary session in France from 21 June 2023.
