New dystopian themes at the height of the society in which we live
It’s been nearly 3 years since Netflix released the last episode of the fifth season of ‘Black Mirror’, but we finally have confirmation of a batch of chapters in progress.
Variety has exclusively published the news, stating that the new season will have more chapters than the fifthwho had only three, although at the moment the exact number of episodes, the cast and the final date are unknown to enjoy new dystopian stories and, unfortunately, many times, nothing crazy.
Each episode will be treated as a stand-alone movie.both by level of production and by duration.
The new season of ‘Black Mirror’ It’s the first to come out since creator Charlie Brooker and his creative partner Annabel Jones left their production company. House of Tomorrowbacked by Endemol Shine Group, in January 2020. It wasn’t long before the pair settled under new production brand BRock and Bonesand Netflix quickly invested in the company through a mega deal in which acquired part of the business over a period of five years, for a sum that could reach 100 million dollars.
However, when Brooker and Jones left House of Tomorrow, the rights to ‘Black Mirror’ remained in the hands of parent company Endemol Shine Group, which was eventually acquired by the Banijay Group in the summer of 2020. That deal effectively prevented Brooker and Jones would produce more seasons for Netflix until a deal was struck with Banijay, and fans were worried that would be the end of the show.
Evidently, an agreement was reached, and Banijay Rights, the company’s distribution arm that owns both the format and the rights to the ‘Black Mirror’ brand, has licensed its hit show to Netflix.

Brooker has kept a relatively low profile since joining Netflix. Known for his BBC ‘Weekly Wipe’ and ‘Screenwipe’ review formats, Brooker applied a similar twist in his 2020 review for Netflix entitled ‘fuck 2020‘, which attracted a large group of familiar faces to use Brooker’s jokes. Netflix repeated with the writer last year with the special ‘fuck 2021‘.
Two years ago, at the height of the pandemic, Brooker stated that he had doubts about the continuity of ‘Black Mirror’: “Right now, I don’t know what stomach there would be for stories about falling apart societies, so i’m not working on it. I really want to revisit my comedic skill set, so I’ve been writing scripts meant to make me laugh.” The joke is over.
